Application
Looking closely at the trackways tells a powerful story of rapid burial. In this Lesson, Dr. Bob visits Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose, Texas and walks among continuous sauropod and theropod trails laid in soft sediments that were immediately covered. These footprints, along with the historical reports of adjacent human tracks, stand as clear evidence preserved by the catastrophic events of Noah’s Flood, just as the Bible describes.
Supplemental Information
Dinosaur Valley State Park lies along the Paluxy River near Glen Rose, Texas. The limestone of the Glen Rose Formation contains some of the world’s best-preserved dinosaur trackways. These are not scattered isolated prints. They form continuous trails of both sauropods (large, rounded, elephant-like prints attributed to animals similar to Sauroposeidon) and theropods (three-toed prints, often linked to Acrocanthosaurus).

History of the Trackways
Local residents noticed the tracks early in the twentieth century. In 1909 a child discovered large three-toed prints after a flood exposed them. Around 1938 paleontologist Roland T. Bird of the American Museum of Natural History examined the site after seeing carved specimens for sale in New Mexico. Bird recognized genuine sauropod tracks in the riverbed (the first scientifically documented sauropod trackways anywhere) and excavated large sections in 1939–1940. Portions were shipped to museums in New York and Austin. The area became Dinosaur Valley State Park in 1972. River erosion continues to expose new tracks while older ones weather away, just as Dr. Bob describes in the video.
Historical Human Footprint Reports and Signs
From the early 1900s local residents and early visitors reported elongate “man tracks” or “giant footprints” in the same limestone layers as the dinosaur tracks. Before the site became a state park, signs along the river identified giant human footprints alongside the dinosaur prints. Dr. Bob notes this in the video: early signs marked the human footprints, but many limestone blocks were later cut out and removed to private collections or museums, and natural erosion has dissolved others. Today the park primarily displays dinosaur trackways, yet the historical record of adjacent human and dinosaur prints remains part of the documented story of the site. Photographs of early signs, loose slabs, and claimed human tracks appear in historical accounts and creationist literature from the mid-twentieth century onward. These reports place humans and dinosaurs in the same rock layers and the same time period, consistent with the biblical timeline in which both were created during the creation week and lived until the Flood.

The Delk Print
A notable example is the Alvis Delk Cretaceous Footprint. In 2000 Alvis Delk found a limestone slab near the Paluxy containing a clear theropod dinosaur track. Years later, while cleaning the slab, a human footprint became visible beneath and partially overlapped by the dinosaur print (the dinosaur’s middle toe stepped into the human track while the mud was still soft). The Creation Evidence Museum acquired the specimen. Multiple spiral CT scans (more than 800 X-ray images) were performed. The scans reveal density variations and compression features under both the human and dinosaur prints, consistent with weight pressing into soft mud before the sediment hardened. These subsurface features are difficult to explain by surface carving. A cast of the Delk print is displayed in the Fossil Evidence Exhibit at The Flood Museum.

Secular responses have frequently focused on attacking the character or credentials of researchers such as Dr. Carl Baugh rather than providing a detailed, peer-reviewed refutation of the CT compression data itself. This pattern (dismissing contrary evidence through personal criticism instead of thorough engagement with the physical observations) is a recurring feature of how mainstream science has handled Paluxy claims. The data remain available for independent examination.
How Dinosaur Tracks Form and Why They Are Fragile
A living animal steps into soft, fine-grained mud or lime-rich sediment. The weight displaces the soft material and leaves an impression that includes toe marks, heel, and sometimes claw traces. Fresh tracks are extremely fragile. Rain, wind, water currents, other animals, or even mild drying can erase or distort them within hours or days. For tracks to become fossils they must be buried rapidly by additional sediment while still soft, then lithified (turned to rock) before destruction. Ordinary slow deposition over long ages rarely meets these conditions. The global Flood of Noah provided exactly the required sequence: rapid deposition of soft lime mud, animals walking across the fresh surfaces, immediate covering by more Flood sediment, and subsequent hardening. The excellent preservation of the Paluxy trackways is therefore strong evidence of catastrophic, rapid processes rather than gradual accumulation.

Variety, Direction, and Evidence of Flight
The trackways show a variety of sizes and kinds of animals moving across the same surfaces. Some sequences appear as if a theropod is following or interacting with sauropods (sometimes called “chase” sequences). Continuous trails of multiple individuals heading in consistent directions fit animals traveling together or fleeing a common threat. Dr. Bob notes in the video that the tracks suggest either a migration path or animals running away from a predator or an approaching flood. In the context of the rising waters of the global Flood, such directional movement is precisely what would be expected as animals sought higher ground or tried to escape the catastrophe.
Circumstances That Reveal the Trackways
The Paluxy River continues to erode the limestone. Periods of high water or flooding strip away overlying sediment and mud. Droughts lower the water level and expose the riverbed. Each of these processes reveals previously hidden tracks while older exposed tracks gradually weather and disappear. New trackways are still being found. This ongoing exposure is itself a residual reminder of the watery catastrophe that originally buried the prints.
Taken together, the soft-sediment origin, the need for rapid burial, the co-occurrence of different dinosaur kinds (and historical human footprint reports), the directional pathways consistent with flight, and the continued revelation of new tracks by river action all point to the unique conditions of the global Flood described in Genesis. The physical evidence left in the limestone of the Paluxy River stands as a tangible testimony that matches the biblical record and encourages us that it is okay to believe God’s Word.
Scripture References
Genesis 7:17-24 “And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.”
Genesis 1:24-25 “And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.”
Job 40:15-19 “Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.”
2 Peter 3:3-6 “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.”
