The "Missing Lead" Mystery?

No Need to Hunt for "Older" Lead—The Earth Is Young!

The latest article making the rounds, titled "Earth’s missing lead mystery may finally be solved" (published on Earth.com, April 15, 2026), highlights what geologists have long called the “lead paradox.”

Scientists compare lead isotopes in Earth’s surface rocks to those found in ancient meteorites. They claim there’s far less lead in the crust than expected if our planet formed 4.5 billion years ago. Their new study from Nanyang Technological University suggests the “missing” lead is locked deep in the mantle, trapped in stable lead sulphide compounds under crushing pressures. They propose this ancient lead sometimes “leaks” up through volcanic activity, explaining traces of “old” signatures in some rocks.

It’s a clever attempt to patch up their long-age model. But we see it differently, through the clear lens of God’s infallible Word.

The Bible tells us plainly: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Not billions of years ago, but in six literal days, just thousands of years in the past. The global Flood in Noah’s day, described in Genesis 6–9, reshaped the entire planet. Catastrophic waters, massive tectonic upheaval, and rapid sedimentation laid down the rock layers we see today. Volcanic activity during and after the Flood was intense, recycling materials quickly.

In that light, there is no need to search for “older” lead hidden in some deep mantle reservoir to explain isotope ratios. The so-called “missing lead paradox” only exists if you assume the Earth is billions of years old and that radiometric decay rates have always been constant. But during the Flood, conditions were anything but constant—extreme heat, pressure, and rapid mixing of materials would have dramatically affected how elements like uranium, thorium, and lead behaved and concentrated.

What secular researchers call evidence for “deep time” is actually powerful testimony to a young Earth shaped by God’s judgment and mercy. The very presence of lead isotopes that don’t fit their slow-and-gradual story should cause them to question their starting assumptions, not invent new hiding places for phantom ancient lead.

Our Creator didn’t leave us in the dark. He gave us His eyewitness account in Scripture, and the rocks themselves cry out in agreement when we interpret them through that framework. The Flood explains layered sediments, fossil graveyards, and the rapid formation of features that uniformitarian geology struggles to account for over millions of years.

So the next time you read about scientists chasing “missing” elements to salvage their old-Earth timeline, remember this: the Earth isn’t hiding billions of years of history. It’s declaring the glory of a young creation, powerfully formed and powerfully judged by the hand of God, and redeemed through the blood of Jesus Christ.

“For the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it” (Psalm 24:1). Let’s keep our eyes fixed on His truth, not on the shifting theories of men. The hope we have isn’t in deep-time models, it’s in the Creator who made the Earth, judged it with the Flood, and offers salvation to all who call on His name. The evidence, rightly understood, always points back to the God of Creation.
